Mezzo soprano Julia Benzinger has been a featured performer with the Sarasota Opera, Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, Yorke Trust, Opera Pacifica, Bellevue Opera, Concert Opera of Seattle, Maud Powell Festival, Seattle Opera Guild, Rome Festival, Rainier Symphony, Seattle Symphony Chorale and Manchester Camerata.  She graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music with an emphasis in opera and classical voice.  While studying, Julia performed the roles of the Granny, Giant and Mother (Into the Woods), Mama Madelena (Nine) and Mere Marie (Dialogues of the Carmelites) and covered the role of Sextus in Julius Caesar.  Other roles include Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Dryad (Ariadne auf Naxos ), Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana), Olga and Filipyevna (Eugene Onegin), Pitti Sing (The Mikado), Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro) and Mad Margaret (Ruddygore).    

Awards for this mezzo soprano include the Anne O’Donnell Award for Outstanding Apprentice Artist from the Sarasota Opera Guild, Emerging Artist Award from the Maud Powell Festival and the Seattle Opera Guild’s Singer’s Training Fund Grant

Future plans include engagements as Isabella in L’italiana in Algeri with the Seattle Opera Guild and Erda in The Theft of the Gold an adaptation of Wagner’s Das Rheingold with the Seattle Opera Young Artists Program.
